The best thing about the show is definitely the chemistry between all of the characters. The crazy personalities and situations are generally unbelievable, but the constant back and forth between Jess, Nick, Schmidt, Winston and even Cece totally sells the ridiculousness as reality. In short, I've never wanted to have three crazy male roommates as much as I do now, but I'm settling for scheduling New Girl onto my DVR and joining the loft gang for a half hour every week.

New Show, New Girl
Due to the recommendations of multiple friends (thanks Lena and Jaz), I binge-watched all episodes of New Girl this weekend. I'm not sure why it took me so long to get into this show. I know I had doubts made on vague assumptions, one of them possibly being that it was a "girly" show -- the television equivalent of a chick flick. Well, though I can still see it holding special appeal for women, New Girl pretty much took all my preconceived ideas about it and threw them out the window. It's got boy humor and nonsense and what I would have thought was an unreasonable amount of yelling, but it works. The early first season definitely tried too hard and at first I wasn't sure what to do with it (I was laughing but also cringing and genuinely unable to tell if it was actually good or if I was just sleep-deprived) but it really figured itself out by mid-season one. I can already tell it's going to nicely fill in the sitcom gap in my tv schedule and heart left by The Office.
Unfortunately, I'm done with this show. I love Zoey and was the reason to see the pilot episode, but I never laughed and there characters were close to annoying. I watch 2 Broke Girls for Dennings and it makes me laugh for some reason. Ah well.
ReplyDeleteGood post.
Valid opinion, but I'm still curious on how much you watched of it? Part of your comment makes it sound like you watched for a fair amount of time, but the second part makes it seem like you only saw the pilot.
DeleteI saw the first 7 episodes. Then my DVR forgot about it, so I forgot about it. a month later, I jumped back in and I didn't feel the need recap what I missed. If felt like nothing changed too much. Same goes with the season 2 premiere.
DeleteWell it definitely got better from its shaky first few episodes. And I'm actually surprised I don't find the characters annoying -- there's a lot of yelling and nonsense and that's usually a negative for me. I thought that was the main reason I don't like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but now I think that has more to do with the fact that none of those characters are good/likable people and would pretty much sell each other out in an instant. Ah well though, to each his own.
DeleteAgreed. You should check out Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Crazy Ones and Michael J. Fox Show. Might not be your cup of tea either, but they're worth a look.
DeleteBrooklyn Nine-Nine is working for me. I'm just too sick of Robin Williams playing Robin Williams to enjoy The Crazy Ones. But I have heard good things about Michael J. Fox show so I'll look into that one next.
DeleteCool. Also, if you can, when you don't have anything to do, check out Attack on Titian. It's subtitled but I guarantee zero disappointment.
